Technological advances: bridge to the future?
Have you ever really stopped to think about how many gadgets and devices surround us? In today ´s society, not only does technology advance at a fast pace, but it also has an awesome effect on our daily tasks. Many people argue that advances in technology are a necessary step towards a better life, but before making any decision let´s review some important facts.
Modern technology has an outstanding influence on different fields such as medicine. For instance, diagnostic apparatus like scanners improve the quality of life in patients as well as contribute to detect diseases quickly. It is also inevitable to stress the importance of some household appliances like the washing machine, which have permitted housewives to work out of home.
Regarding negative effects of technological advances, many people claim their deeply dependence on computers and smartphones. Instead of meeting real people and having face to face contact, some teenagers are used to both making friends through social networking and playing video games on their own for hours. This worrying behaviour is an obvious consequence of the internet overuse.
To sum up, although I regard techonology as an essential tool to build a better future, we must be aware that an inresponsible use of it can divert us to a worse life so a moderate control over electronic devices is vital in order not to lose our privacy.

IS TECHNOLOGY
MAKING LIFE EASIER?
Technological
advances are supposed to make our lives easier, allowing us to do things
efficiently. But, on many occasions, they make everything more complicated.
Every day, we are consuming such a large amount of information that we do not
have enough time to process it. Also, we put our trust in devices that can
fail.
In the
computer age, anyone can create their own site and share knowledge. It seems
that the more sites we find on the Internet, the better informed we are. In
fact, there is a great deal of information without a reliable source. Looking
for quality content can too often turn into a hard and stressful task.
Because of
the use of modern technology some problems which did not exist in the past have
come up. These days, most of us are keen on cutting-edge gadgets in which we
put away our precious memories in the shape of files that can be lost easily.
What is more, we are so dependent on our mobile phones that we are unable to
remember the most frequently dialed numbers because we are using our memory
less and less.
To sum up,
technological advances help us in our daily task whereas we waste much more
time due to information overload. We should bear in mind the risk of losing
valuable personal information.

Technology: not always an advance!
In recent years it
seems everyone has agreed upon the widespread belief that technology is purely
beneficial and progress should not be hampered. Nevertheless technological
advances and inventions always carry some downsides attached to them, and some
criticism has arisen to counterbalance mindless technology adoption.
One cannot argue
against the advantages posed by great technology inventions, such as running
water, electricity or the Internet, among others. All of them have eased our
lives in such a way that most of us would not be able to survive without them.
On the other hand, we
all know some side-effects of technology. With the advent of the Internet, for
instance, access to information was democratized, but also at the expense of
hindering face-to-face communication. It is undeniable that technology can be
used in both positive and negative ways, as in the case of nuclear power. A
noteworthy critic of technology, Theodore Kaczynski, once said: “The
Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human
race”. I believe it is not completely true, but there is still some truth
behind this statement.
To sum up, I would like
this article to be a catalyst of the awakening of a more profound awareness of
technology and its implications. If not taken as a serious matter, technology
could eventually backfire on us.
