In the last few years, the cases of abortion have been going up dramatically in Spain. The most worrying trend is the increase of pregnacy in teenagers. To stop it, the Spanish Goverment wants to liberalise abortion laws and introduce new measures to prevent unwanted pregnacies, such as the morning-after pills. These measures have sparked violent controversy about abortion.
There can be no doubt that teenagers start their sexual life sooner and sooner, and maybe because of it, laws should be rewritten to adapt to the current situation. In this sense, some people think that the morning-after pill could be an inmediate solution to this problem. Not only is this pill cheaper and more accesible than an abortion surgery, but it is also safer for the teenagers, always style as long as they use it as a solution to a specific situation.
But not everybody agrees with this measures. There are those who argue that most women that use it do not know the effects of this pill. In fact, research has shown that massive ingestion of this medicine could cause thyrod disease or even fertility problems in women. No one would dispute the fact that the composition of this medicament is mainly a huge amount of hormones, which would not be very healthy for a young woman's body.
From my own point of view, the main problem is the ignorance teenagers show about conception, sex and sexually transmitted diseases. Consequently, the solution comes from the information they recieve from the family, the school and the goverment. Maybe is not the easy way, but I think that at least it is the safer and more effective for our teenagers.

I agree with you Ana. I also think that the main problem, at least in Spain, in the lack of information or education of the teenagers, and not only teenagers but also parents. But, as you say, to reeducate people is harder and more difficult.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, good essay, and food for thought
