BOOK REVIEW

Danny the Champion of the World

I read the blurb on the back cover and that was the reason why this work attracted my attention. Roald Dahl is the author of this book and it is illustrated by Quentin Blake. As well as that, this adventure book is written from a child´s perspective and it is set in a sky-blue gipsy caravan where Danny and his father live happily.

The key character is Danny who is a nine-year old boy and the plot focuses on his boyhood. From the age of four months onward, William looks after him since his mother died suddendly. William earns his living by repairing engines and serving customers with petrol in the filling-station. Regarding Danny, his world consists of the filling-station, the caravan and the school. However, it is unlikely to be bored in his father´s company. Despite that, at the age of nine he learns that grown-ups are complicated creatures, full of quirks and secrets. Consequently, the plot has an unexpected twist.

This extremely well-written book combines richly-drawn characters and fine illustrations creating an excellent and compelling plot. Moreover, you take sheer delight in all the adventures told in the book. It greatly appeals to people of all ages. So, for an unforgettable unique experience, read this thrilling novel. You will not be disappointed by this masterpiece. I definitely recommend this totally exhilarating book that will remain vivid in my memory.

Book Review

Book Club  Review:

The Witness by Sandra Brown, a famous American writer of suspense novels, tells the story of a woman who can’t reveal her true identity. This book is an absorbing story with twists and turns.

Kendall Deaton is a well-known public defender in Prosper, a small town of South Carolina. She marries Matt Burnwood –a handsome and powerful man- expecting a beautiful life. But one day she becomes a witness to a horrifying execution. She is scared for herself and her baby. So she decides to escape, to live hidden far from her village and the criminals. Kendall Deaton is a brilliant, brave and strong-minded woman. She is an idealistic lawyer continuously looking for the Truth.

The story is a gripping plot well developed and well written. The characters are skillfully described and highly believable. Successfully, the writer manages to keep the reader in suspense and as confused as the characters seem to be. Gradually and slightly, Sandra Brown leads the reader to the Truth!

I was expecting The Witness to be a classical mystery book but, it turned out to be a compelling and exciting story.  Indeed, the suspense keeps the reader intrigued until the end! As far as I am concerned, I really enjoyed reading this book. For that reason, I won’t hesitate to recommend it!
